Yoga for dancers – workouts curated for dancers to help build functional strength and flexibility.

She began to research dancers rehabilitation 5 years ago and found out most dancers quit dancing at their peak settling down as teachers or their quality of dance declines due to the injury .

She also found that most dance classes never insist on warm-up or an additional strength workout, also one of the main reasons many dancers injure themselves and get into rehab.

Vandana's Journey

Vandana was learning under Smt. Jayalakshmi Arunachalam Pillai and her daughter-in-law Smt. Subhashini Chandrashekhar since age 7, under the Thanjavur style for 15 years earning titles like ” Natya Bala ” and “Natya Chudhar”. 

She has performed in all the major TV channels and has won prizes in competitions. To hone her skills further she joined Smt. Anitha Guha in 2006. She has been part of Anitha Aunty’s Ballet productions since 2007. Her Role as Garuda Vahanam for “Pada Kavitha pita maha” was immensely appreciated by the audience and her Guru .

 She also had the opportunity to work with dancers like M.V.N Murthy sir and Alarmel Valli Akka briefly which she considers to be a great honor. She has danced all over India and Bali (Indonesia) participating in cultural festivals.

 Vandana holds a Masters’s degree in Bharatnatyam and is also an internationally certified yoga teacher, teaching yoga specifically tailor-made for dancers at Bharathanjali

Why Yoga for Dancers?

Most Bharatanatyam dancers are unaware of their body alignment, abusing their body further also injuring themselves.

Some dancers are even forced to retire early from their career due to the same reason.

Yoga for dancers focuses particularly on asanas, mobility exercises based on the individual
body types to help the dancer understand his/ her own weakness and strength.

This will create an awareness and understanding of their own body, and not push their body to their end range.

The tailor-made sequences benefit dancers to improve their strength and alignment based on individual
needs.
